the next release on paul rip s specimen records is by god of the machine, the brainchild of deep house and techno maestro, derrick thompson a.k.a. drivetrain. the ep kicks of with the original, a powerful slice of jackin tribal techno, its bleeps, tones and chants sitting atop a tight percussive groove that s infectious from the first beat to the last drop. next up comes hijacker s electro workout. its beats are old school yet the attitude is set firmly in the future with its square wave bass line, trippy noises and swooping scikfi pads. santonio echols takes it back to detroit with a simple yet driving tech house rendition containing sublime melodic chords, eerie pads and a hypnotic pad stab that sends tingles up your spine. mr.c finishes with one of his typically infectious acid workouts, where he adds a cheeky bassline, haunting pads and cowbell pings to blend and morph into the twisted effects of a psychoactive substance.

two and a half minutes of drums rolling under a whirlwind of cranky guitars and vocals arguing from the bottom of a 1990’s boom box, that’s 51 black super. 11 tracks and 30 minutes to cross the usa, from california with pavement and weezer to ohio with guided by voices and the raspberries. 51 black super isnt a band to get lost on its way, or in futilities. written, composed, recorded in an emergency, with short and intense sessions, the debut album by 51 black super is made in the image of its creators: spontaneous and eager to get things out there. sounds like the strokes with less cocaine and more facial hair, said a californian rock critic after listening the two first few tracks.

current wire magazine front cover artist hieroglyphic being’s debut album for soul jazz - the acid documents - is an album made up of tracks first released last year only ever available in a bespoke edition of 100 copies (yes 100) – in the form of a homemade cd-r – made exclusively for the sounds of the universe record store. this album is now released officially as a one-off edition of 1000 copies on transparent red double vinyl (download code included), fully remastered with artwork by japanese artist 2yang. pressing on translucent neon ornage double vinyl with download code included.
uk techno stalwart ben sims adopts his ron bacardi alias for an outing on bass culture records, bringing with him three varying slices of 4x4-based music. d’julz has a deep penchant for bass and funk, and this is evident throughout the ep. we get off to a rugged start with ‘rock your body’, a deliciously dark slice of grumbling techno. intertwined with the morose bassline is a mysterious, tribal-esque female vocal, warped and twisted to add a primal feel to the track. on the flip, bacardi puts his a different hat on giving us ‘first effort’ a vivacious funk-laced hybrid, which teases you spitting out intermittent trumpets and other such live instruments. finally, ‘the money/dub’ goes straight into disco territory with that oh-so-familiar entrancing rhythm that will keep you fixed to its beat from start to finish. that filtered wah-wah guitar is impossible to resist, especially when combined with such crisp percussion. sheer quality from monsieur bacardi…

the a side * sense of doubt* is a bit more stripped down and melodic, as the b side and also the title track of this release * subterraneans* is more of a jazzy house groove, that simply doesn’t stop rolling and keeps the tension with subtle variations and other nice little gimmicks. as always we truly hope that you enjoy these tracks as much as we do and we are happy to have daniel back on board as for sure he can be called one of germanys top notch producers.

marc cerrone became the star of incredible live experiences in paris and elsewhere. as if, after having spent the first step of his musical career elaborating his repertoire, he’d chosen to devote the second one to make it live permanently. firstly on stage, then through younger generations: when bob sinclar samples his music or invites him to collaborate, it’s a new way for cerrone to keep his main ability alive: make crowds dance. a talent which most of his younger fans - todd terje, prins thomas, james murphy and a whole generation of cosmic disco lovers - agree to and get inspiration from. from 1976 to 2014, cerrone, whose discography makes so many others jealous, never stopped playing and keeping his beat which he considers vital. and if disco music had to be summarized to one artist, one creator, it would be him and nobody else. this exclusive double lp sounds like a tribute to his prolific discography, containing incredible remixes talented producers. a cd with all tracks is included.

the first years, from his first album in 1976 to his 7th in the middle of the 80’s, were fuelled with an exemplary sense of creativity and a free-spirit vision. against everyones advice, cerrone was never reluctant to compose long and pure trance disco tracks, not exactly radio-friendly at the time, but which did incredibly well because they encapsulated the hedonism of the day and were far more than a trend. for instance, love in c minor and supernature have become unbeatable classics, featured regularly in the best pop, disco or dance selections, such a success would have burnt most of the others wings, whose career would have been ruined. at the beginning of the 80s, when he decided to unleash his creativity on stage, cerrone managed to rebound with you are the one studio album.

shortly after his first ep on dnuos ytivil, sub-division of bristol imprint livity sound, simo cell, neo-parisian and nantes native, puts his second release out on fragil musique. on this one, the young producer asserts his bass-tainted electro influences. highly skilled and very technical dj, but above all open to bridges between genres and eras, the record feels like he conceived it for his own club usage. on the a side, two subtle twin tracks, -reading rashid- and -soko ban-. cycling melodies and hypnotic pads sketch two bass outlines, as simple as effective, that seem perfectly fit for switching from a stripped down techno track to an old jungle weapon. on the flip, hit track -meteor racer- is surprising. a rawer and more stripped down electro piece that lifts the veil a bit more on the young producers talent. those four brilliantly crafted track definitely place simo cell among the french newcomers to watch closely.
glasgow youngster steven simpson may only have just finished his a-levels, but he is the first new talent to be plucked for this london imprints homage to vintage house, acid and breakbeat. 1Ø pills mate is a home for wary stragglers in the rave. riding 303 bass-lines into the mid-afternoon and steadily sinking into a hammock in a field come the next dusk. heavy come-downs and even heavier drum-jams. this is one for the true believers, the baggy white tee crew and everyone who s ever gotten lost in a dark, sweaty basement.
